Stir Fry

Stir Fry

For the stir fry, I started by soaking the rice. Next, I put 4 cups of water in a medium pot on high heat until it started to boil. I then added the rice and a pinch of salt. After adding the rice the water stopped boiling so keeping the heat high I waited until the rice began to simmer then I covered the pot and reduced the heat to low. I waited for about 25-30 mins before removing the pot from the heat. While the rice sat, I thinly chopped pieces of celery and onions and cut cured ham into cubes. Removing frozen corn from the freezer I added the celery, onions, ham and corn to a pre-greased wok. Using a wooden spoon I stirred the ingredients for about 5 minutes before adding the rice. As a final step I incorporated soy sauce and pepper and sat down to enjoy!

Ingredients:

– 2 cups of brown rice

– 1 celery stick

– 1/2 of a white onion

– Cured ham

– 1/2 cup of corn

– 4 tablespoons of soy sauce

– Salt

– Pepper

Stir fry was a dish that I ate quite a bit growing up. Although, it was usually a little more traditional with peppers, carrots, broccoli and chicken rather than ham. After using chicken last week for the souvlaki I wanted to use a different kind of meat and I was trying to make a more simplistic recipe. I used the website (https://www.delish.com/cooking/a20089653/how-to-cook-rice/) to learn how to cook the rice, otherwise the recipe was straightforward. The rice was also cooked the day before; therefore, it was slightly gummy from having sat in the aluminum pot overnight. Overall, the dish tasted very good, but it lacked the freshness of more vegetables. Next time, I will add peppers, carrots, broccoli and chicken to make a more traditional stir fry with healthier ingredients.
